CPB, SPB want dialogue to resolve crisis.
Leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh and Socialist Party of Bangladesh on Friday called on the government to take initiative for holding a national dialogue to resolve the current political crisis. The country was facing a serious political crisis as more than 100 people were killed in over one and half month blockade and hartal programme enforced by the BNP led alliance, they said at a rally in the capital. CPB and SPB jointly organised the joint rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in demand of restoring peace in the country, stopping extra-judicial killings and an end to anarchies and arsons in the name of blockade and hartal. CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim called on the government to take immediate steps for holding a national dialogue to resolve the current political crisis.
All the political parties excepting Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami would take part in the dialogue to end the crisis and creating an atmosphere for holding a free, fair and participatory general elections, Selim said. Terming the general elections held on January 5, in 2014 as ‘controversial’, Selim said most of the political parties and voters had rejected it. The two parties will hold week-long demonstrations and rallies in district and upazila levels from March 2 to 8 pressing their demands. Moreover, they would observe Tajul Day on March 1, on which day labour leader Tajul Islam was killed at Adamjee Jute Mills. SPB general secretary Khalequzzaman said that the two big political parties Awami League and BNP had failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people.
He called on all the left, democratic and progressive political forces to be united to from a left alternative political force. He criticised the ruling government for keeping Islam as the state religion in the constitution, saying that secularism and state religion should not remain side by side. He called on the government to stop extra judicial killings and the BNP-led alliance to stop anarchies and arsons in the name of blockade and hartal. Chaired by Mujahidul Islam Selim, the rally was addressed, among others by the SPB central leaders Bazlur Rashid Firoz and Razequzzaman Ratan, CPB general secretary Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed and its central leader Cafee Ratan.
