Two placed on 7-day remand

Two suspected extremists arrested on their surrender during a 14-hour raid at a suspected den of extremists at Ashkona in Dhaka on Saturday were remanded in police custody on Monday for seven days for interrogation.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Meher Nigar Suchana passed the order after the two – Jebunnahar alias Shila alias Marjun, 34, wife of retired major Jahidul Islam, killed in a raid at Rupnagar in Dhaka on September 2, and Trisha Moni alias Umme Ayesha, 22, wife fugitive suspected Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh leader Mainul Islam alias Abu Musa – were produced before the court.
Inspector Saidur Rahman of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police produced Jebunnahar with her 16-month daughter Mariam Binte Jahid in her lap and Trisha with her four-month daughter Juaidia in her lap before the court.
Jebunnahar hails from Comilla and Trisha from Rajshahi.
They were named in a case lodged by counter-terrorism unit sub-inspector Md Shahinul Islam with Dakhkhinkhan police station Sunday night under the Anti-Terrorism Act against eight named and 3-4 unnamed people.
Siddiqur petitioned the court for remanding the two suspects in custody for 10 days for interrogation to know more about the extremist outfit, the whereabouts of the other accused in the case and to identify other people behind them.
Two others – Shakira alias Tahira, 35, whose exact identity could not be known and Afif Quaderi alias Adar, 14, son of suspected JMB leader Tanvir Quaderi killed during a police raid at Azimpur in Dhaka on September 10, – were killed and Shakira’s daughter Sabina alias Afifa was rescued injured during the raid on Saturday.
The case filed by Shahidul for the incident named Trisha, Jebunnahar, Shakira, Afif, Mainul alias Musa, 29, Rashedur Rahman Sumon, 24, Md Selim, 26, and Md Firoz, 20.
The complaint stated that it was primarily proved that all the accused were members of a JMB faction.
After surrender, Jebunnahar and Trisha informed police that Musa was staying at a place near Dhaka and a counter-terrorism unit team launched raids at possible places – Mirpur, Pallabi and Jatrabari in the city and Savar and Ashulia in Dhaka district to arrest Musa, the complaint stated.
The post mortem examination of Afif whose body was recovered from the spot Sunday night, a day after his death, was conducted at Dhaka Medical College morgue Monday afternoon.
On completion of the post-mortem examination, Dhaka Medical College forensic department head Sohel Mahmud told waiting journalists that he found several marks of bullet injuries and a bullet in the body.
He said that he primarily assumed that the boy was killed in bullet hit.
Shakira’s postmortem examination was held on Sunday. The bodies of Afif and Shakira were preserved at the morgue as none came to claim the bodies.
Injured Sabina, 4, daughter of Shakira who allegedly committed suicide by explosion while Sabina was in her lap, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital post-operative unit in a critical condition, said doctors at casualty department.
