Neutral govt can be formed with eminent people: Khaleda

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia said on Tuesday that there were so many good and eminent people in the country by whom the election-time neutral government could be formed to hold free and fair national elections.
‘Under the neutral government, there will be no chance of vote rigging,’ she said at a function the on occasion of Christmas Day and New Year at her Gulshan office Tuesday evening.
Pro-BNP Bangladesh Christian Association president Albert P Costa presided over the function.
Khaleda said that elections would not be held in free and fair manner unless a neutral government was formed during the elections.
She claimed that the recent election to Narayanganj City Corporation was not held in free and fair manner.
As the tenure of the incumbent Election Commission would expire in February 2017, Khaleda said that her party submitted proposals for the reconstitution of the commission based on consensus, but only the commission could not ensure a free and fair election.
If necessary more discussions on the reconstitution of the commission can be held, she said, adding that any better proposal could be accommodated with her proposals.
About the dialogue with the president, the BNP chairperson said that the ruling Awami League was speaking a big deal about the dialogue stating that they would accept what the president would say.
Khaleda said that people knew that the president would tell what the AL whispered him.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Khandker Mosharaf Hossain, among others, spoke at the function.
