People to resist BNP on Jan 5

Joint general secretary of ruling Awami League Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Friday said people would resist any protest programmes of BNP on January 5.
‘It is not only that BNP tried to thwart the election on January 5 in 2014, a total of 87 people were killed after the election in the name of ousting the Awami League-led government in 2015,’ Hanif said at a joint meeting of the Dhaka south city Awami League at Diploma Engineer’s Institute to make successful the rally scheduled to be held at Suhrawardy Udyan on January 10 to mark the home coming day of founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
‘People will resist BNP if they try to observe any protest programme on January 5 in the name of “democracy killing day”,’ Hanif added.
BNP will hold countrywide black flag processions, excepting Dhaka city, on January 5 and is also scheduled to hold black flag rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on January 7 to observe ‘democracy killing day’.
Haif called on Awami League leaders and activists to hold a rally at Suharawary Udyan on January 10  to mark the home coming day of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He called on the BNP to take preparations for the upcoming general
elections scheduled for 2019 instead of ‘hatching conspiracies’.
Dhaka city Awami League leader and also food minister Kamrul Islam said the upcoming general election would be held under the Awami League-led government and BNP would take part in the election to save their party.
‘I hope that BNP will not take any wrong decision like they did boycotting the general election held on January 5 in 2014,’ Kamrul said.
Chaired by president of Dhaka south city Abul Hasnat, general secretary Shahe Alam Murad and others spoke at the meeting.
