Khaleda’s graft cases hearing adjourned till April 5, warrant active Crude bombs exploded amid heightened security.
The Special Judge’s Court-3 on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on the two graft cases against Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia till April 5, keeping the arrest warrants active, said Mosharraf Hossain Kajal, the public prosecutor. Talking to the reporters outside the makeshift court he said no petitions filed by Khaleda Zia were acceptable as the arrest warrants were already issued. However, the court enlisted the petitions as court records, he added. ‘Either her (Khaleda’s) warrant has to be executed, or she has to appear before the court for seeking bail’ he said. Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah on Tuesday filed the petitions on her behalf against the bail rejection and seeking recall of the arrest warrants issued for her in Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust Fund graft cases.
Sanaullah Miah later said they prayed for recalling of the arrest warrants as Khaleda’s ‘non-confidence’ petition hearing were pending with the High Court. It is scheduled to be held on Thursday, he said. Khandker Mahbub Hossain, another lawyer on Sunday said she will not appear in the lower court on Wednesday until the High Court disposes of the petition where she had applied for transferring of two graft cases. He said she has ‘no confidence’ in the incumbent court. On February 25, the Special Judge’s Court-3 in Dhaka had issued warrant for arresting Khaleda Zia as she did not appear in the court during proceedings in those embezzlement cases on ‘security grounds’. Meanwhile, our correspondent reports miscreants hurled two crude bombs outside of the makeshift court this afternoon at 12:20pm. The bombs exploded amid a heightened security.
