No case recorded against cops

No case was filed till Friday night against police officials for torturing two journalists of private television channel ATN News on Thursday when they were filming cops’ action against protesters against Rampal power plant project during general strike.
ATN News reporter Imran Hossain Sumon said that
they submitted a complaint to Shahbagh police station Thursday evening detailing how police tortured their colleagues and naming four cops directly involved in the attack. 
Shahbahg police station officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Siddique said that they would record the complaint as a first information report after getting sanction of the home ministry for filing a criminal case against the public servants. 
Protests continued across the country against the torture on journalists during performance of the duty.
Different journalist organisations would form a human chain in front of National Museum at Shahbagh in Dhaka at about 11:00am today protesting at the continued attacks on journalists and demanding safety during performance of their duty.
Rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra in a statement protested at the attack and demanded immediate action against the perpetrators ATN reporter Esan Bin Didar sustained a fracture in the right leg and video journalist Abdul Alim sustained injuries in the dead and other parts of the body in the police torture on Thursday.
They were given medication at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The victim journalists said that they came under attack when they were filming police action against anti-Rampal protesters near Shahbagh crossing.
ATN News deputy manager (administration) Md Abubakar Siddiqui submitted the complaint to Shahbagh police station Thursday evening naming assistant sub-inspector Ershad Mondal and three constables Mokhlesur Rahman, Hosen Kabir and Sabuj Khan for the torture.
The cps carried out the attack without any provocation, the complaint stated.
Following the attack, police authorities suspended assistant sub-inspector Ershad.
Ramna police division deputy commissioner Maruf Hossain Sardar said that they were investigating how the ‘trouble’ ensued. 
A three-member committee led by an additional deputy commissioner Navid Kamal Shaibal, formed on Thursday, launched an inquiry into the incident. The committee was asked to submit the report in two working days.
Maruf said that they would record the first information report based on the inquiry.
The torture took place just three days after the police on Monday demanded repeal of the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act 2013 claiming that police were being harassed through the filing of false cases under the law.
