BNP to send names to search committee for EC
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party decided Sunday night to send names to the search committee for the next Election Commission.
The decision was made by the BNP standing committee, the highest policymaking body of the party, at a meeting presided over by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office.
After the meeting, a standing committee member told New Age that they decided to send names to the Cabinet Division names for the commission saying that BNP had talks with president Abdul Hamid on the reconstitution of the commission based on consensus among political parties.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alsmgir told reporters that they discussed about proposing names and the meeting was adjourned till Monday evening.
On Saturday, the search committee sought five names for the commission from the 31 political parties each who had talks with the president on the reconstitution of the commission. The political parties were asked to submit the names by 11:00am on Tuesday.
Standing committee members including Moudud Ahmed, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Jamiruddin Sircar, Mahbubur Rahman, Tariqul Islam, Mirza Abbas, Rafiqul Islam Mia and Nazrul Islam Khan attended the standing committee meeting that lasted for more than hour.
