Journalist killed in intra-AL clash in Sirajganj

A journalist of Samakal died on Friday, hours after he along with two others received bullet wounds during an intra-party clash of ruling Awami League at Shahzadpur upazila in Sirajganj on Thursday.

Abdul Hakim Shimul, the daily’s Shahzadpur correspondent, died on way to a Dhaka hospital from Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra, said Rezaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shahzadpur police station.

Three people including Abdul Hakim, who were on duty on the spot, were bullet-wounded while 12 others injured in a clash between two rival groups of the ruling party at Monirampur of Shazadpur on Thursday afternoon, he said.

Hakim was rushed to Shahzadpur Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was shifted to Bogra Medical College and Hospital.

He was being transferred to Dhaka for better treatment.
