Dhaka declaration aims to ensure education for all: Nahid

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid has said that the main goal of the Dhaka declaration is to ensure education for all as well as equal opportunity for both male and female students.
‘The Dhaka declaration is also emphasising on improving quality of education alongside checking drop-out rate,’ he said while addressing a press conference on Dhaka declaration of E-9 ministerial meeting at a city hotel on Monday.
Primary and mass education minister Md Mostafizur Rahman and secretary of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division Md Sohrab Hossain, among others, were present at the press conference.
At the E-9 ministerial meeting, 8-point commitment has been declared for ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
The commitments include advance SDG-4 and corresponding targets set within ‘The 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development’ and ‘The education 2030 framework for action’, which serve as the overall guiding framework for education development and enhancing lifelong learning opportunities in the few years and initiative action to formulate country specific targets within the broader scope of the SDG-4.
The E9 is a forum of nine countries to achieve the goals of the UNESCO’s ‘Education for All’ initiative. The ‘E’ stands for education and the ‘9’ represents nine countries — Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria and Pakistan.
E-9 initiative has become a forum for the countries to discuss their experiences related to education, exchange best practices, and monitor EFA-related progress.
Representing over half of the world’s population and 70 per cent of the world’s illiterate adults, the E-9 forum was launched in 1993 at the EFA Summit in New Delhi.
