People under ‘ugly and perverted’ democracy: Ershad.

HM Ershad, the special envoy to the Prime Minister, alleged the country’s people are now under the rule of an ‘ugly and perverted’ form of democracy in the name of Westminster form of government. ‘There’s no democratic rule left in the country. People are now under the grip of an ugly and perverted form of democracy which we don’t want,’ Ershad, also chief of Jatiya Party faction, said while addressing a meeting of the party at its Banani office in the capital, according to UNB. He also prayed for an end to the rule of women in the country. After a joint meeting at the party’s Banani office, party chairman Ershad along with top leaders attended a munajat (prayer) in which the prayer was made. Ershad, former military ruler, announced that Dhaka city (north) unit general secretary Bahauddin Babul and presidium member Hazi Saifuddin Ahmed Milon will contest the mayoral polls from the party for Dhaka north and south city respectively.

In the prayer, conducted by the party’s Dhaka north city unit religious affairs secretary Maulana Asib Ullah, the party also sought success of party candidates in the upcoming elections to the two Dhaka City Corporations. Party secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu chaired the joint meeting of the north and south city units. Leader of the opposition in parliament Raushan Ershad, also party presidium member, was not present.
