Fans go wild after Tigers’ master class.

Jubilant cricket lovers brought out victory processions and exchanged sweets all over the country after Bangladesh cricketers snatched a sensational win against England in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in the tournament history. Bangladesh cricket team, known as Tigers, beat the  England cricket team, known as Three Lions, by 15 runs at Adelaide of Australia on Monday in a Pool A encounter.  This is for the first time that Bangladesh reached the quarter-finals since their first appearance in the mega event in the 1999 World Cup in England. Bangladeshi captain Mashrafe Mortaza dedicated the win to the freedom fighters of the country, who valiantly fought the war of independence in 1971. The capital Dhaka witnessed wild celebrations with thousands of people coming down to the streets after medium pacer Rubel Hossain knocked the last England batsman, JM Anderson with a yorker-length ball that also knocked out England from the world cup.

The victory for the Tigers came in style as the match swung till the end and last two England batsmen were shown to the pavilion by men in green in the penultimate over of the match when many thought the match was slipping out of Bangladesh’s hand. President Abdul Hamid, speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, prime minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Raushan Ershad, Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia promptly greeted the national cricket team. They congratulated the Bangladesh cricket team for their spectacular victory against England and expressed joy at the outstanding performance of the Tigers and wished their continued success in the Cricket World Cup. The Jatiya Sangsad on Monday hailed the cricket team for their victory over England with deputy speaker Fazley Rabbi Mia presiding over the sitting of the House. Immediately after the full and fast delivery uprooted Anderson’s stumps, fans in the stands in Australia and millions glued in front of televisions across the globe jumped in joy, while people in Dhaka and outside burst out in wild jubilation. Youths on motorcycles carrying the national flag brought out processions with drums, bugles and vuvuzelas, roaring ‘Bangladesh, Bangladesh’. 

In the capital’s Dhanmondi, Dhaka University, Wari, Gopibagh, Mirpur and Old Dhaka, people thronged to the streets to celebrate the win, second in three encounters with England in ODI world cups. Almost all roads in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Sylhet and others cities were occupied by cricket lovers and in many places they celebrated the victory with processions and distribution of sweets. Huge numbers of youths rushed to Raju Memorial at TSC in the Dhaka University and brought out several rounds of processions and exchanged sweets
