Execution of Mufti Hannan, two others anytime

The prison authorities called family members for final meeting with three death row convicts including Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami leader Mufti Abdul Hannan Munshi as their executions were imminent, officials said on Tuesday.
The authorities kept all the formalities after their appeals for presidential mercy were rejected this week.
Colonel Iqbal Hasan, additional inspector general of prisons, said all preparations were made for executions.
Deputy inspector general of prisons Towhidul Islam said they were not disclosing the time and place of the executions for security reasons.
Mufti Abdul Hannan’s counsel Mohammad Ali said he knew nothing about the latest development as regard his clients.
On March 27, the death row convicts — Mufti Abdul Hannan and two others — sought presidential mercy and the appeals were turned down a week later.

The third convict, Delwar Hossain Ripon, is staying in Sylhet jail.
New Age correspondent in Sylhet reported that the Sylhet Central Jail senior superintendent Md Sagir Miah said the letter from the home ministry reached them around 9:00am and then it was read out in front of Ripon.
Later at noon, Ripon’s father Abu Yusuf and mother Azizunnesa also met with him, the jail super said.
Sagir, however, told New Age that no specific order against his execution reached the jail till the evening.
On February 11, 2016, a High Court bench comprising justice M Enayetur Rahim and justice Amir Hossain, approved the death sentence for three of the accused — Mufti Abdul Hannan, Sharif Shahedul Alam and Delwar Hossain —and life-term imprisonment for two others — Mufti Hannan’s brother Mohibullah and Mufti Moinuddin — handed down by the lower court.
