Businesses start crying, says FBCCI president

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry president, Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, on Monday said that business people had started to cry being hapless victim of ‘destructive’ political programmes. At a discussion organised by online news portal Time Watch at the National Press Club, he said that the extent of loss caused by the ongoing continuous blockade and general strikes was equivalent to half of the national budget and it would not possible to recover the loss.kram urged the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance to withdraw the blockade and general strike and said, ‘At first you have to shun the path of confrontation and then we will mount pressure on the government to hold a dialogue.’ The business leader said that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure security of the people and they must do it at any cost.Urging political parties to reach a consensus, Akram said that business people observed various programmes like demonstration and human chain demanding a business-friendly environment but none paid nay head to their call.‘Now we are tired and hopeless…We are crying as our business has broken down,’ he said.
American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh president Aftab-ul-Islam and Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh president Alamgir Shamsul Alamin, among others, spoke at the programme.
