BNP protests at raid amid police bar

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday said that they would banish from Bangladesh ‘nasty politics’ like ‘ransacking’ opposition party office by misusing police.
She came up with the view as her party staged demonstrations in different parts of the country in protest against police raid on her Gulshan office.
Police obstructed and attacked BNP leaders and activists at some places leaving several of them, including BNP Dhaka city north unit joint secretary Mahfuzur Rahman, injured with bullet, the party claimed.
Addressing a press conference in the capital, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir demanded resignation of home minister Asaudzzaman
the sudden raid, and they informed me they had intelligence reports based on which the drive was carried out,’ he said.
The minister made the remarks at a meeting with AL’s district office secretaries and deputy office secretaries at a city community centre.
On Saturday, police raided BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s office following a search warrant issued by a court to find out whether there was any ‘anti-state documents’.
The drive that began at 7:30am ended around 9:30am with no recovery of any anti-state documents.
At a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday denounced the attack saying, ‘Such fascist aggression will only ruin the future of democracy in the country.’
Reacting to Fakhrul’s comment, Quader said, ‘Mirza Fakhrul invented a relation between the raid and democracy. But, when they had been in power raided our party office frequently and sealed off our Centre for Research and Information. During their rule, Awami League office was not only raided, but also its leaders and activists were tortured. Bombs were hurled at our office. Did they forget it? Whether the democracy was right at that time? ‘
Quader said all the parasites will be removed from Awami League by collecting its new members and renewing the membership.
