Badruddoza expresses skepticism over city polls

Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Monday expressed his skepticism over upcoming city corporations polls.
‘I am in doubt if the polls will be held ultimately. If that is held, in that case, how far it will be free and fair…I have bitter experiences over the matters.’
Badruddoza, the country’s former president observed this while responding to reporters after visiting Hasina Ahmed, wife of forcefully disappeared Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Salah Uddin Ahmed, at their Gulshan home, a television channel reports.

He urged the government to hold the city polls in free and fair manners so that the polls could redeem the Election Commission’s January 5 scandalous national elections, boycotted by the then opposition parties.On March 18, the Election Commission set April 28 for the elections to the bifurcated Dhaka and the Chittagong city corporations simultaneously.Besides, he said that the government has failed to find out BNP leader Salah Uddin Ahmed after 2 weeks into his forced disappearance.BNP joint secretary general Salah Uddin disappeared on March 10 after law enforcers allegedly picked him up from a house in the city’s Uttara.
Until his disappearance, Salah Uddin, a two-time parliamentarian from Cox’s Bazar, had been working as the spokesperson for the BNP-led alliance.
