The allocation of symbols among the mayoral aspirants of Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation elections started on Friday morning. Among the major candidates, Awami League-blessed candidate Annisul Huq was given ‘Table Clock’ while BNP-sponsored candidate Tabith Awal ‘Bus’ to vie for the mayoral post in the DNCC polls, United News of Bangladesh reports. Tabith himself collected his symbol from the returning officer’s office at 10:15am while Annisul’s representative Iqbal Chowdhury collected the symbol from the returning officer. Both the candidates wanted ‘Table Clock’ but later it was allotted for Annisul Huq. Besides, JSD contender and actor Nader Chowdhury got ‘Peacock’ while CPB-supported Abdullah Al Kafi ‘Elephant’, Gansanghati Andolan candidate Zonayed Saki ‘Telescope’ and Jatiya Party-blessed Bahauddin Ahmed ‘Charka’. Meanwhile, returning officer allocated ‘Hilsa’ for Awami League-supported mayoral aspirant Sayeed Khokon while ‘Mug’ for BNP-blessed mayor hopeful Mirza Abbas to contest the Dhaka South City Corporation polls. Mirza Abbas’s representative Sanaullah Miah collected the symbol from the returning officer’s office. Returning officer Mihir Sarwar Morshed said many of the candidates wanted ‘Hilsa’ symbol and later it was given to Sayeed Khokon after understanding among the candidates.
