PBI starts probe into attack on Fakhrul

The police bureau of investigation has started investigation into the case lodged over June 18 attack on the motorcade of Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Rangunia in Chittagong. 
A PBI team led by its special superintendent Julfikar Ali Haider visited the place of incident, Ichhakhali area of Rangunia upazila, on Sunday and recorded statements of several witnesses, said PBI officials. 
‘A PBI team visited the reported spot as we started investigation into the case lodged by lawyer Enamul Haque regarding the attack on Fakhrul and other BNP leaders,’ said Jaulfikar. 
A BNP team led-by Fakhrul came under attack at Ichhakhali under Rangunia on June 18 as they were going to Rangamati to visit landslide-affected areas. 
Besides Fakhrul, BNP standing committee member Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury, vice-chairman Ruhul Alam Chowdhury, organising secretary of Chittagong Mahbubur Rahman Shamim and several other leaders of the party had also received injuries in the attack. 
Enamul, a former public prosecutor and also a former general secretary of Chittagong District Bar Association, lodged a case with a Chittagong court on June 21 against 
26 named and 25-30 unnamed people for carrying out the attack. 
The court directed the PBI to investigate into the case and submit its report to the court by July 18. 
A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, Md Mohsin, of Rangunia, meanwhile, filed a case with the same court accusing 26 local BNP leaders for injuring him as the BNP secretary general’s motorcade drove past him in the area. 
The court also directed the PBI to investigate into the case and submit its report by July 19.
