Extremist outfits have no capacity to carry out attacks: IGP

Inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Hoque has said that extremist outfits have not enough organisational capacity to carry out attacks, as the law enforcers destroyed their network.
‘Members of the law enforcement agencies destroyed militant and terrorist network, so they have no capacity to carry out attacks,’ he said while exchanging views with crime reporters at a post-Eid reunion at Police Headquarters in the capital on Sunday.
The IGP said the law enforcement agencies conducted many anti-extremism drives and arrested extremists and terrorists and sent them to jail, adding, ‘During the anti-extremism campaign, many extremis were killed and injured. It is necessary to prevent extremism and terrorism together aimed at eliminating extremists from the country.’
During the view exchange, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Aashaduzzaman Miah, additional inspector general of police M Mokhlesur Rahman and senior police officials were present.
Responding to a question, AKM Shahidul said current neo JMB chief Ayub Bachchu along with other fugitive militants are under intelligence surveillance. They will soon be caught by the law enforcement agencies.
Referring to prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy against extremism and terrorism, the IGP said the militants are now scared of intensified intelligence vigilance.
‘Our law enforcers have been conducting drive against extremists across the country to keep it under control. Following prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s call, common people side by side Alem- Olema have come forward and raised awareness to eliminate terrorism and extremism from the country,’ he added.
