APPAREL FACTORY BOILER BLAST Death toll rises to 13

The death toll from Monday’s boiler blast at a Gazipur apparel factory rose to 13 as the firefighters recovered four more bodies from the debris of the factory building until Tuesday evening.
‘We have recovered four bodies from the debris of the collapsed part of the building of Multifabs Limited at Kashimpur in Gazipur until evening. One of them was recovered at about 8:30am and three others were found at about 6:30pm,’ said fire service and civil defence deputy director Md Akhteruzzaman in Gazipur, who was leading the rescue operation.
The authorities so far found about 50 injured people, including few passersby, admitted at different hospitals including Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur and Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Gazipur district administration officials said.
They said that the death toll might increase as many
of the injured were in critical condition and the rescuers were yet to complete to search at all the affected places.
Gazipur executive magistrate AKM Golam Morshed said that 10 of the 13 decreased were identified as Mahabubur Rahman, 23, of Namajkhali at Sonatala in Bogra, boiler in-charge Abdus Salam, 55, of Bamansundar at Mirsarai in Chittagong, Gias Uddin, 30, of Madna at Chandpur Sadar, fireman Al-Amin, 30, of Gobra at Harishpur in Magura, Biplab Chandra Shil, 38, of Birat Bazar at Goalanda in Rajbari, assistant engineer Mojibur Rahman, 37, of Kunda at Nasirnagar in Brahamanbaria, Soleman Mia, 30, of Mariya at Palashbari in Gaibandha, Mansurul Huq, 30, of Katachhara at Mirsarai in Chittagong, Arshad Hossain, 36, of Ichhakhali in Chittagong and Amirul Islam of Chakrampur in Naogaon.
Morshed said that that the identities of the rest three bodies found Tuesday evening were yet to be established.
Gazipur additional district magistrate Rahenul Islam, the chief of the probe committee formed by the district administration, visited the spot Tuesday morning and told reporters that the eight-member team comprising of all related departments began the probe with experts in the sector.
His committee was asked to submit the report in seven working days, beginning from Tuesday, to the Gazipur deputy commissioner, he said.
He said that the registration of the boiler that exploded Monday evening expired on June 24
District administration officials said that the committee was asked to find out the cause of the accident and people responsible for it, assess the loss and recommend necessary steps to prevent any recurrence of such accidents.
They said that the district administration provided Tk 20,000 to the families of each of the deceased for their funeral.
Fire service control room duty officer Ataur Rahman said that the fire service authorities also formed a three-member probe committee led by its assistant director Dilip Kumar Ghosh and the committee was asked to submit the report in seven working days.
Multifabs Limited chairman Mohiuddin Faruque told reporters that the factory authorities had no negligence in maintaining the boiler.
He said that the factory authority would provide Tk 3 lakh for each of the deceased workers and would bear all the expenses of treatment of the injured.
Besides, the factory would give job to any willing family member of the dead victims.
State minister for labour and employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu, who visited the spot on Tuesday, said that the government would provide Tk 5 lakh to the families of each of the deceased. 
He assured punishment for the people responsible for the accident.
The factory authorities Tuesday morning hanged a notice in the factory gate announcing the closure of the factory for an indefinite period.
The authorities of all the factories surrounding the affected factory declared holiday for Tuesday.

Samajtantrik Sramik Front, Garments Sramik Odhikar Andolan and Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust demanded impartial probe into the boiler blast, exemplary punishment for the people responsible and adequate compensation for the families of the deceased and injured.
