War Crimes: Appeals of Mujahid, SQ Chy deffered to April 28.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday deferred untilApril 28 the hearing of two appeals of Jamaat leaders, Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid and Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury against their death sentence sponsored by International Crimes Tribunal. The four member bench headed by the chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha set the date after their lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain moved two applications seeking adjournment for proper preparation for the hearing. Death-row war crimes convict, Mujahid filed the appeal on August 11, 2013 against the tribunal’s verdict that had on July 17, 2013 awarded him death sentence for crimes against humanity in Faridpur during the independence war in 1971. Meanwhile, Salauddin Quader Chowdhury filed his appeal on October 29, 2013 against the crimes tribunal’s verdict that had on October 1 gave him death penalty for war crimes in Chittagong.
