WALKING ON BRIDGE FORMED BY CHILDREN UZ chairman’s bail cancelled

The High Court Division on Wednesday cancelled interim bail granted by a lower court to Haimchar upazila parishad Chairman Nur Hossain Patwari for cruelty to children.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim set aside the lower court’s bail order and directed Nur Hossain to surrender in the judicial magistrate’s court in Chandpur in four weeks.
Nur’s offence was walking on a symbolic ‘Padma Bridge’ formed by school children at Haimchar on During annual sports of Nilkamal Osmania High School at Haimchar students of class nine and ten formed the ‘Padma Bridge’ by holding shoulders and as the chief guest Nur Hossain walked on it.
On February 1, the police recorded a case filed by guardian Abdul Kader Gazi against Nur Hossain and four others after the video footage of the incident went viral on the Facebook drawing countrywide sharp criticism.
On March 29, a juvenile court in Chandpur granted bail to Nur Hossain.
On April 25, the same bench directed the juvenile court to explain why the bail it granted to an adult accused would not be set aside.
The bench issued the rule after guardian Abdul Kader challenged the bail order of the juvenile court.
