Tamim credits Cristiano for cryptic celebration
Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal said on Saturday that the celebration after his century had nothing personal rather it was prompted by his favourite football star and current FIFA Ballon d’Or holder Cristiano Ronaldo. Tamim scored 132 runs to end his century drought that helped Bangladesh defeat Pakistan by 79 runs in the opening match of the three-match ODI series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday. More than his hundred, his celebration hogged the limelight as his gesture was taken quite surprisingly among the media with several meanings attached to it. Some believed that Tamim ran in front of the crowd and asked them to shut their mouth, pressed for being victim of their wrath for not making three digit marks.
That also includes some high-ups of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, who are in favour of dropping him whenever he is not making big contributions. ‘After a long time I scored a century so it was the reason of celebrating that way,’ said Tamim. ‘But there was nothing else into it. I just wanted to celebrate the way my favourite footballer Cristiano Ronaldo does,’ he said. Tamim famously raised four fingers to celebrate his four fifties in the Asia Cup in 2012 when he was under similar pressure for his place.
