SC stays Justice Fazlul Haque’s trial in graft case

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday stayed the trial proceedings in a corruption case against former adviser to caretaker government Justice Md Fazlul Haque, also a former Appellate Division judge.
A three-member bench headed by chief justice SK Sinha also allowed Justice Fazlul Haque to appeal against a High Court verdict that had rejected his petition for quashing the graft case against him.
The High Court in its verdict on March 15 also cleared the way for the continuation of the trial proceedings at the Dhaka Special Judge’s Court 9 against Justice Fazlul Haque in the graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission on charge of accumulating wealth illegally.
In the case filed with Ramna police station on April 13, 2008, the commission also accused Justice Fazlul Haque of hiding his wealth of Tk 97.37 lakh in the wealth statement submitted to the commission.
Justice Fazlul Haque served as law adviser to the caretaker government led by the then president Iajuddin Ahmed from October 2006 to January 2007.
