Khaleda stays off campaign today as vehicles damaged, staff hospitalised.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia is staying off the campaign for the party-backed mayoral candidates in the city polls on Thursday as several of her motorcade vehicles were damaged and her personal security men injured. BNP chairperson’s press wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan told reporters about the decision in front of Khaleda’s Gulshan residence this afternoon. He said that the BNP chief’s election campaign has been postponed for today. Explaining the decision, he said nine vehicles of her motorcade including hers were damaged and that nine of her personal security personnel and staff were injured and hospitalised. She might resume her campaign from Friday after repairing the vehicles, Sayrul pointed out. The motorcade of Khaleda Zia experienced three consecutive attacks in the past three days reportedly carried out by ruling Awami League men in the capital. She had been campaigning for city polls scheduled for April 28.
