Quader claims progress in resolving Rohingya crisis

Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said that there was some progress in resolving the Rohingya crisis.
After holding a meeting with Indian high commissioner in Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla at Setu Bahaban, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, told reporters that the Myanmar government has primarily assured Bangladesh to take back their citizens.
The world communities were also increasing their pressure on Myanmar to take back the Rohingyas from Bangladesh, Quader said as more than six lakh Rohingyas have already entered Bangladesh from Rakhine State in Myanmar to escape persecution since August 25.
‘We have discussed various issues at the meeting with the Indian high commissioner including Rohingya crisis… The Indian government has raised their voice to resolve the Rohingya crisis,’ Quader said.
The Indian foreign minister Sushma  Swaraj, during her recent visit to Bangladesh, said that Myanmar should take back their citizens to their country.
‘Now I hope that the Indian government is mounting pressure on the Myanmar government to resolve the crisis,’ Quader said.
‘We also hope that our friendly countries, China and Russia, will also come forward to resolve the crisis,’ Quader added.
At the same time, Quader said it was unlikely that the challenging crisis will be resolved soon.
An Awami League delegation led by Obaidul Quader, will go on a visit to India at the invitation of the BJP general secretary Ram Madhab in the last week of November.
Harsh Vardhan told reporters that their government was trying to create pressures for implementation of Kofi Annan commission for repatriation of the Rohigyas to their country.
The Indian government was also considering to increase their aids for the Rohingyas who entered Bangladesh, the high commissioner added.
