Khaleda gets bail in graft cases

A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia in Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Orphanage Trust and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Charitable Trust graft cases.

The judge of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-5, Akhtaruzzaman, passed the order after the former prime minister surrendered to the court this morning, days after arrest warrants issued for her in the cases.

The BNP chairperson arrived in the makeshift court set up at Bakshibazar in the city around 10:15am.

On November 30, the court issued warrants of arrest for Khaleda Zia in the graft cases as she did not appear before the court and fixed December 5 for arguments hearing in both the cases.

Earlier on November 23, Khaleda’s lawyers sought a permanent bail for her, but the court allowed her only weekly bail and set November 30 to continue her proceedings in both the cases.
