Housewife, in-law murdered inside city apartment,

A housewife and her husband’s uncle were hacked to death by unidentified miscreants inside their apartment in the capital’s Pallabi area Wednesday afternoon.The victims were Sweety Khatun, 27, and her in-law Aminul Islam, aged around 50.Sweety’s five-year-old son, Saad, was injured and found locked inside the bathroom, said police.Two miscreants stormed into their apartment in Pallabi area around 2:00pm and hacked Sweety and Aminul to death in separate rooms, said Pallabi police senor assistant commissioner Kamal Hossain.Sweety’s husband Jahidul Islam is a sub-assistant engineer of Dhaka Electricity Supply Company Limited.The house belongs to Jahidul which he bought a few years back and his uncle Aminul came to visit them, said police.Jahidul had been running a private company named Independent Power Limited where Sweety was made as chairman. There had been some altercation over share of partnership with another partner, Ashraful Islam Shahin, said police.Mirpur division deputy commissioner Nisarul Arif said they were investigating the murder with the backdrop of the altercation in mind.The partner Shahin and the building caretaker Abdul Khaleque were detained for quizzing, said police.Jahidul admitted to the altercation with his partner, but said some miscreants claiming to be members of Bikash-Prokash terror group demanded Tk three lakh from him during the end of March, 2015. They also threatened to kill his wife and son if the extortion money was not paid.

Jahidul said he filed a general dairy with Pallabi police station immediate after the incident, but police did nothing and did not even contact him further.Before being detained, Khaleque told reporters that two people arrived on a motorbike and introduced themselves as relatives of Jahidul. They went to the apartment after Sweety gave them permission over phone.They stayed in the apartment for over half-an-hour and then came down and left the place.Jahidul, who is now working at Rupnagar branch of DESCO, said he went to the apartment for lunch around 3:00pm and found the blood-drenched bodies in separate rooms.His minor boy Saad was hit in the forehead and found locked inside the bathroom.‘Saad told me that the two came to the apartment introducing themselves as officials of Gas supply or maintenance,’ said Jahid.As Sweety opened the door, those men hacked at her with sharp weapons. When the uncle tried to stop them, he was killed as well, said police.AC Kamal said that they have seized the handle of a dagger and another dagger without a handle.The apartment was ransacked, but police could not confirm whether anything had been looted.The bodies were kept at Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post mortem.The family hailed from Kazipur upazila of Sirajganj, said police.Jahid joined DESCO over a decade ago.
