New Age correspondent in Lalmonirhat reported that the Indian border force shot dead Shafiqul Islam, 23, son of Jaynul Abedin, of village Amjhol under the upazila. He was a cattle trader.
Lieutenant Colonel Golam Morshed, the director of Border Guard Bangladesh battalion-15 in Lalmonirhat, said a group of cattle traders, including Shafiqul, went to the border area near demarcation pillar at about 4:00am to bring cattle head.
Sensing their presence, a team of BSF soldier from its 100-Paglabari camp under Cooch Behar district in West Bengal, India, chased the cattle traders and opened fire on them, he said.

In a separate development, a BSF patrol team intruded into Bangladesh territory and abducted a farmer, who was working in his cornfield in Mogolhat border in the district headquarters in the morning.
BGB troopers from Mogolhat camp rushed to the spot after learning about the abduction of Sabed Ali.

The reason behind his abduction is not clear.
The BGB has sent a letter of protest. BGB battalion director Morshed said they had called for a company commander-level meeting to get back Sabed but BSF was yet to respond.
