No rally on roads: Obaidul

No rally or gathering of any political, social and cultural organisation is allowed to be held by choking spaces of roads, Obaidul Quader, road transport and bridges minister, said on Sunday.

The minister came up with the decision, among several others, at the 10th board meeting of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority held at South Nagar Bhaban in the capital.

Any rally or gathering is also prohibited on working days except holidays — Friday and Saturday, Quader, also the DTCA chairman, said while presiding over the meeting.

Another decision to bring public transport system within a structure by integrating all transport companies was also made in the board meeting.

These decisions would be coordinated by DTCA, the minister said.

Obaidul also asked Dhaka Metropolitan Police to initiate drives against illegal motorcycle driving.

More than two persons on a motorcycle are not allowed and the motorcyclist and its pillion passenger must wear helmets, he added.

Narayanganj city mayor Selina Hayat Ivy and DTCA executive director Syed Ahmed, among others, were present in the meeting.
