Mother, daughter burned in acid attack

A young woman and her pentagenarian mother came under acid attack allegedly by her former husband at Manahardi upazila in Narsingdi on Friday night.The victims – Sabekunnahar, 25, and her mother Rokeya Begum, 50, were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital burn unit.Sabekunnahar’s husband Doulat Mia reportedly went into hiding.Sabekunnahar said that on Friday night they were sitting in a bed at their house at Charmandalia village of Manahardi upazila in Narshigdi.At about 11:00pm, Doulat threw a glass of acid at them through window and fled the spot.
The victim said that she saw four others moving away from the spot with Daulot.
She said that she was married to Doulat 10 years ago. Doulat left her when she got pregnant.Then Sabekunnahar divorced Doulat and stared staying with her mother. Now she has a six-year son.
Doulat recently was trying to make relation with her again, but Sabekunnahar refused.Rokeya’s brother Abidur Rahman Manjid said that they filed a complaint with Manahardi police station against Daulot, his father Mohammad and some others.
