5 survivors of US-Bangla plane crash stable at DMCH burn unit
Five survivors of US-Bangla plane crash in Kathmandu are now stable at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burn unit despite some complications, doctors said Saturday.
Besides burns, they suffered trauma, doctors told reporters.
The survivors are under treatment of a 13-member medical team, led by coordinator of the burn unit, Samanta Lal Sen, Health Services director general Abul Kalam Azad said.
The survivors include, Almun Nahar Annie, Salyada Kamrunnahar Swarna, Mehedi Hasan, Shahreen Ahmed and Rubayat Rashid.
Only Rubayat was flown to Dhaka Saturday afternoon and the others were brought home earlier.
Speaking at a news conference Saturday noon, Azad said that they were ‘stable now’ despite the trauma they had gone through.
The survivors would be provided psychological counseling, alongside the burn and orthopedic treatments, he said.
Rubayat developed lung problems having to inhale smoke for long, Samanta told reporters.
One of his chest bones fractured and he suffered burns on a leg, he said.
Doctors imposed restriction on visitors and requested them to stay away.
Almun Nahar Annie’s brother-in-law Lutfar Rahman said that now she could take her food and speak.
Annie suffered burns in her respiratory tracks.
She lost her minor son and husband in the crash.
Mehedi, her cousin, also could speak and eat his foods, said Lutfar.
After visiting Swarna, two friends said she was fine now with the burns in her respiratory track.
The Health Services DG told reporters that Kabir Hossain and Shahin Bepari, the survivors undergoing treatment in Kathmandu, would be flown back to Dhaka Sunday for admission in the burn unit of DMCH.
Survivor Emrana Kabir Hashi would be taken to Delhi for treatment while survivor Yakub would continue to receive treatment in Kathmandu, he said.
The crash killed 49 people including 26 Bangladeshis Monday.
