Ershad for polls-time govt with parties in parliament

Jatiya Party chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad on Saturday proposed that the next general election should be held under the Election Commission and an election-time government should be formed with representatives of the political parties having representation in parliament.
At a party rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, he said that the election-time government would carry out the routine work only and help the commission to conduct the election.
He said that they wanted the next general election to be held in a free, fair and credible manner where voters could vote for candidates of their choice.
He criticised the Awami League-led government and said that they had failed to ensure good governance in the country.
The education and banking sectors of the country were nearly destroyed and the unemployment rate was on the rise, Ershad said.
He said that now the Jatiya Party could take part in the general election alone.
‘We are ready to go to power winning the next general election,’ Ershad said.
He said the development work as claimed by the government was only visible in Dhaka city while the rural areas remained largely deprived of it.
Senior co-chairperson of the party Raushan Ershad said that the Jatiya Party would go to power and it would not be used as a ladder for any party to go to power.
Party co-chairman GM Quader said that the country was facing a serious political crisis before the next general election.

The people of the country were eagerly waiting for a change in politics and the Jatiya Party could fulfil the aspirations of the people, Quader added.
Chaired by HM Ershad, the rally was addressed, among others, by party  secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, presidium members Anisul Islam Mahmud, Kazi Feroz Rashid, Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Syed Abu Hossain Babla and leaders of the Sammilita Jatiya Jote led by JP also spoke at the rally.
Several hundred leaders and activists of the party from across the country took part in the rally with banners and festoons.
