7 clinic staff jailed for operation by fake doctors

A mobile court on Wednesday jailed seven staff, including two fake doctors, of a private hospital, Crescent Hospital, for varying terms ranging from six months to two years for conducting surgical operation by fake doctors.
The mobile court also fined the hospital Tk 10 lakh for charging high cost from patients and sealed off the hospital.
‘We found two fake doctors conducting an orthopaedic surgery on a patient in Operation Theatre at the hospital. They, seeing us, tried to flee,’ said executive magistrate Sarwoer Alam, who led the mobile court
along with members of Rapid Action Battalion.
He said that he jailed the two fake doctors, Hasan, 35, and Anwar, 35, for two years, hospital’s manager Mithun Shikder for one year and four other staff for six months.
He said that the hospital owner Nurun Nabi fled away when the mobile court reached the hospital.
‘During the drive, we found 22 admitted patients. We are shifting all the patients to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Research,’ he said at 9:45pm.
On March 21, another mobile court fined an upscale United Hospital at Gulshan in Dhaka Tk 20 lakh for using expired reagents in medical tests.
