Mojaheed to file review petitio

Condemned death row war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed has decided to file a review petition over the Supreme Court’s verdict that had upheld his death sentence. Mojaheed’s lawyer Shisir Monir this morning after meeting with Mojaheed in the jail, said Mujahid asked them to file the review petition, challenging the apex court’s judgement, after receiving the full copy of the verdict. ‘It is not clear to me, specifically for what crime I was awarded death sentence,’ said Shishir Monir, quoting Mojaheed. Earlier, a five member team led by Shishir Monir met him at Dhaka Central Jail around 11:00am and they went out of the jail at 12:00pm. The other members of the team were Moshiul Alam, Kamal Uddin, Najibur Rahman and Matiur Rahman Akand. The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the death penalty of Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, which had earlier been awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal-2. The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on July 17, 2013 awarded Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed death sentence for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in collaboration with the Pakistan occupation forces after finding the Al Badr boss guilty of five, out of seven, charges. The charges included murder of intellectuals, genocide, abduction and persecution. On August 11, 2013, Mojaheed filed an appeal with the Appellate Division against his capital punishment in the case.
