MOGHBAZAR DOUBLE MURDER: DB seeks fresh 7-day remand for Bakhtiar

Detectives on Sunday sought a fresh seven-day remand for Bakhtiar Alam Roni who had fired into a crowd from his car in traffic congestion killing two people in Moghbazar Dilu Road area in the capital on the night of April 14. The court has posted hearing on the remand petition for June 24, said Detective Branch (south) assistant commissioner Hasan Arafat. Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Aminul Haq passed the order after DB sub-inspector Dipak Kumar Das, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the petition for fresh remand for Bakhtiar, son of Awami League reserve seat lawmaker Pinu Khan, for further interrogation. Earlier, Bakhtiar was remanded in DB custody for four days from June 9. DB officials quoted Bakhtiar to have admitted that he had fired shots from his licensed pistol during traffic congestion on that night. The ballistic report of the Criminal Investigation Department confirmed that the shots that had killed the two people at Moghbazar were fired from Bakhtiar’s gun. Auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Ali and rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim were killed during the shooting spree at about 1:45am on April 14, according to the police. Detectives arrested Bakhtiar at his Elephant Road house on May 31 over the killings. On June 1, a Dhaka court remanded him in DB custody for four days for interrogation. The interrogation, however, began on June 9 as he was pretending to be ill, police said. Police also seized Pinu Khan’s car from which her son Bakhtiar opened fire. News Courtesy: www.newagebd.net
