Govt failing to help flood victims: Khaleda
Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday alleged that the government was not providing relief support to flood victims and instead were busy with corruption.
‘The flood victims are passing their days in misery and the government is not providing them with relief’, Khaleda said at an iftar party.
Engineers Association, Bangladesh organised the function in the city’s Bashundhara Convention Centre.
‘The flood victims are now crowding the capital for work as they cannot two meals during Ramadan, but the ruling Awami League is busy looting and repressing ordinary people’, Khaleda said.
The BNP chief alleged the imported rotten wheat was being sent to villages to feed the poor while no disciplinary measure was taken against the food minister.
‘The corrupted minister is holding office freely despite importing rotten wheat’, she said.
Khaleda said the country was passing through hard times in this ‘unelected’ government’s tenure.
‘There is no peace, work, democracy and rule of law in the country… the situation will worsen in the coming days’, she said.
‘The only solution is a fresh election under a non-party neutral government’, Khaleda said.
‘A change is inevitable now for peace, work, development and democracy’, she said, calling on the engineers to garner support for the elections.
Khaleda alleged the communication system had collapsed ahead of Eid-ul-fitr due to the terrible condition of the roads.
The BNP chief blasted the government for keeping Amar Desh editor and EAB president Mahmudur Rahman in jail.
She urged Mahmudur to seek bail to get out of jail as he is refusing to seek bail in a ‘false’ charge against him.
