Quader says CEC should restrain his statements

Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said that chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda should have restrained his public statements.
Asked for his reaction on the remark of the chief election commissioner that there was no guarantee that there would be no irregularity in the next general election, Quader expressed hope that the Nurul Huda would restrain his statements and make no such statement in future.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, was talking to reporters during an inspection to a Bangladesh Road Transport Authority office at Keraniganj.
On Tuesday, Nurul Huda said, ‘I cannot assure that there will be no irregularity anywhere during such a huge national election. But we will try our best to control irregularities conducting investigations or following other means. Actions will be taken in case of any anomaly.’
Quader noted that the chief election commissioner might have thought that it was reality in the context of the country.
‘But he should have restrained his speech,’ the minister said, adding that Nurul Huda was holding the top position of a state institution.
Later on the day at a programme at the ministry, Quader said that Bangladesh Nationalist Party demanded dialogue before national elections not to resolve the political crisis, actually they desired confrontations.
It was proved from the quota reform and recent movements of the students for road safety, in which BNP leaders and activists were engaged in instigations, he said at a discussion meeting to mark national mourning day to be observed on August 15.
Sachibaloy Karmakarta-Karmachari Oikya Parishad, organised the programme.
