Schoolboy killed in city road accident

The enthusiasm of Eid shopping of a schoolboy ended in a tragedy when a bus knocked him down, leaving him dead on spot in the capital’s Dhanmondi on Wednesday afternoon. The 12-year-old boy, Fahim Ahmed, was coming from Sreepur of Gazipur with his mother Jharna Begum for Eid shopping, said the deceased’s family. Fahim’s elder brother Pavel works at a shop in Eastern Mollika Shopping Complex in the capital. He recently got festival allowance and asked his mother and brother to come to Dhaka for Eid shopping, said the family members. Class VI student Fahim and his mother came to Dhaka in a VIP Paribahan. When they reached in front of Anwer Khan Mordern Medical College at Dhanmondi, the driver and his helper asked the passengers to get down from the bus, said Jharna. When they were getting down, Fahim got stuck between two buses, competing with each other, and crushed under the wheels, said police. He was immediately taken to Anwer Khan Modern Medical College where doctors declared him dead. Soon locals flew into rage and torched the VIP Paribahan bus and vandalised another one. Police then arrested two drivers and seized the two buses, said Dhanmondi police officer-in-charge Nur-e-Azam Mia. The driver who killed the kid, however, managed to flee. Meanwhile, in another incident a 15-year-old Leguna helper, Nuruzzaman, died being crushed by a bus while crossing road at Dhaka Udyan at Adabar, said police.
