Yet another Chakma youth killed in Rangamati

A 32-year-old ethnic minority man was beaten to death by unidentified assailants near his residence at North Bangaltali under Baghaichari in Rangamati Wednesday night.

The victim was identified as Mission Chakma, 32.

After his murder, two rival Chittagong Hill Tracts based political parties – United Peoples’ Democratic Front and Parbatya Chattagram Janasanghati Samiti (MN Larma)– claimed Mission to be their activist. They, as per their party line, also blamed their rivals for the murder.

The news of the murder came only five days after gun attacks in Khagrachari that killed seven UPDF activists and passersby.

Baghaichhari police officer-in-charge Amir Hossain said a group of miscreants picked Mission up from his house around 9:30pm on Wednesday and beat him to death.

He said that they, on information from villagers, rushed the spot at a hilly area in the morning, recovered the body and sent it to Khagrachari General Hospital for post mortem examination.

PCJSS-MN Larma faction’s Baghaichari upazila unit president Suresh Kanti Chakma claimed that Mission was their activist and was killed by UPDF men.

UPDF organiser Michael Chakma, talking to New Age, claimed Mission to be their supporter.

Condemning the murder, he blamed ‘neo masked force’ for the murder.
