No plan to shift Shahidul Alam to any hospital: authorities
The authorities of Dhaka Central Jail at Keraniganj on Thursday said that they had no plan to shift detained acclaimed photographer Shahidul Alam any hospital outside the jail right now.
Shahidul Alam being treated at the jail hospital and the doctors examined his health Thursday morning, jailor of Dhaka Central Jail Mahbubul Islam Milon told New Age, adding that his condition was nothing serious and he did not need to be shifted to any other hospital.
He made the comment a day after Shahidul’s wife Rahnuma Ahmed and his colleague Saydia Gulrukh in a statement on Wednesday said that Shahidul needed immediate medical treatment as he was suffering from breathing difficulties and eyesight problems, and had pain in the jaw and gums.
In the joint statement after visiting Shahidul Alam at Dhaka Central Jail marking the Eid-ul-Azha , they said that Shahidul did not have any such health-related complaints before he was taken into police custody on August 5 and appealed to the government, more specifically the jail authorities, to ensure immediate medical treatment for Shahidul Alam shifting him to a hospital.
Jailor Mahbubul Islam Milon said that Shahidul’s family did not complain about any such problem. ‘They could have told us about his complications.’
On August 6, Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor remanded Shahidul Alam in police custody for seven days for interrogation in the case under section 57 of Information and Technology Act with Ramna police station few hours after his arrest at his Dhanmondi house on August 5 night.
He was sent to jail by a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate on August 12, when the police produced her before the court after interrogating him in custody.
