HC orders admitting Khaleda to hospital, reconstitute medical board
The High Court Division on Thursday directed the government to immediately admit former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
The court also directed the government to reconstitute the medical board for Khaleda Zia after replacing three members, Md Harisul Huq, professor of cardiology at BSMMU, Abu Zaffar Chowdhury, professor of orthopedics and Tariq Reza Ali, associate professor of ophthalmology, all leaders of Shadhinata Chikitshak Parishad as well as ruling Awami league central committee.
Khaleda Zia’s treatment got delayed as she wanted admission at the United Hospital as her personal physicians had advised.
The government wants to send her to BSMMU or the Combined Military Hospital.
The court directed the government to co-opt the three politically un-affiliated physicians in the reconstituted medical board for her, keeping unchanged BSMMU internal medicine professor Md Abdul Jalil Chowdhury and physical medicine and rehabilitation associate professor Badrunnesa Ahmed.
The court directed the government, BSMMU and the jail authorities to comply with the directive immediately.
The court also asked the medical board to begin her treatment after admitting her at the BSMMU.
It also asked the medical board to allow gynecologist, physiotherapist and medical technicians of her choice and to allow physicians of her choice from outside the BSMMU.
The court also asked the board to provide treatment to Khaleda maintaining standard procedure upholding her dignity befitting the former prime minister and leader of one of the largest political party.
On allowing visitors, the court instructed them to follow jail code
The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik Al Jalil issued the directives after disposing of a writ petition filed by Khaleda Zia on September 10 seeking her treatment of her choice at the United Hospital in the capital.
Khaleda has been jailed since February 8.
Until now, she got bails in 30 cases including the Zia Orphanage Trust Fund case in which she was jailed for five years in February.
She has been implicated in 36 cases.
