Jatiya Oikya Front submits 7-point demand to PM

The Jatiya Oikya Front submitted its seven-point demand to prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday.
Representatives of the newly formed opposition alliance handed the charter of demand along with a letter, addressed to the prime minister, over to ruling Awami League office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, also the prime minister’s special assistant, at Hasina’s political office at Dhanmondi in Dhaka.
Front leaders Gono Forum presidium member Jaglul Haider Afriq and joint general secretary AOM Shafiqullah handed Abdus Sobhan Golap the letter signed Jatiya Oikya Front chief Kamal Hossain, Jaglul said.
Asked why they went to the AL president’s political office without going to the Prime Minister’s Office to hand over the letter, Jaglul said that Abdus Sobhan Golap had assured them that the letter would be handed over to the prime minster.
The front launched on October 13 by main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Jatiya Oikya Prakria, Gono Forum, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction led by ASM Rob, and Nagarik Oikya.
The alliance started its campaign through a rally in Sylhet city on October 24 and then in Chattogram on October 27.
The seven demands include resignation of the government, formation of party-neutral government through discussion with all parties, dissolution of parliament, release of jailed BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and all other political prisoners and reconstitution of the Election Commission for a free, fair and neutral general election due by January 28, 2019.
