JOF to write to PM for further dialogue

The Jatiya Oikya Front would send a letter to prime minister Sheikh Hasina today for holding dialogue again.
The steering committee of the new opposition alliance made the decision at its meeting at the front chief Dr Kamal Hossain’s office at Motijheel in Dhaka Saturday evening.
‘The letter proposing further dialogue will be sent to the prime minister tomorrow [Sunday],’ Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, emerging from the meeting.
‘We are sending the letter Sunday morning, as she [Hasina] said in the previous talks that more dialogues could be held,’ he added.
Fakhrul said that talks in a smaller group could be held again on the front’s seven-point demand for free, fair and credible elections.
Earlier in the afternoon, the front sent a letter to the Election Commission urging it not to announce the schedule for the 11th parliamentary elections until the ongoing political dialogue between the ruling and opposition parties and alliances ended.
Fakhrul said, ‘We will mention in the letter that a letter has been sent to the Election Commission on Saturday urging it to wait until the ending of the dialogue for announcing the polls schedule.’
‘We hope talks in a smaller group would continue. We believe it should be considered to reach a solution to the political crisis,’ he added.
The November 1 dialogue between the prime minister and front leaders hardly yielded any outcome as the BNP leader told reporters that they were ‘not much satisfied’ over the dialogue.
Kamal Hossain at a press conference later said that they found no solution to the political deadlock.
In the dialogue, the front placed seven-point demand, including resignation of the government, formation of a party-neutral government through discussion with all political parties, dissolution of the parliament and reconstitution of the Election Commission before the next general election.
The steering committee meeting began at about 7:30pm and continued for two hours.
Chaired by Gono Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain, the meeting was attended by Gonoshshthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction president ASM Rob, BNP standing committee members Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain and Moudud Ahmed, Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Gono Forum executive president Subrata Chowdhury and Jatiya Oikya Prakriya leaders Sultan Mohammad Monsur and ABM Mostafa Amin.
