Fair polls impossible under AL govt: Fakhrul
Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said holding a fair election under present government was not possible.
He came up with the comment while briefing journalists at his Thakurgaon residence.
‘It seems the election process has turned into a farce and no election atmosphere is prevailing right now in the country as all the attacks are made on BNP people. It’s unfortunate that these attacks are being sponsored by the state,’ he added.
He also alleged, ‘The goons equipped with sticks, machetes and arms are not only roaming in the area openly, but also threatening people even my wife. It’s most unfortunate that the election officials are threatening us to remain with Awami League’.
Mirza Fakhrul also claimed that ‘AL goons’ were torching BNP offices, residences of minority people and blaming BNP for all those activities.
‘They are trying to eliminate communal harmony in Thakurgaon. Activities of the election commissioner are biased so far. If the commission wants, it can still create an atmosphere of a fair poll, we are in the election and will remain there till the end,’ the senior BNP leader said.
Leaders of district unit BNP were also present at the press briefing.
