Modi greets Hasina

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi congratulated Awami League president Sheikh Hasina over her party’s victory in the 11th parliamentary elections.

He conveyed his greetings over telephone, according to Prime Minister’s Office sources.

‘Indian prime minister phoned his counterpart Sheikh Hasina at about 10:30am and congratulated her, AL and the people of Bangladesh after her party’s win with absolute majority in the national election held on Sunday,’ PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said.

‘Victory of AL in polls is the reflection of stunning development that Bangladesh attained under your dynamic leadership,’ Modi said.

The press secretary also mentioned that Indian prime minister said his country would continue to support Bangladesh’s development efforts like past.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina also thanked Modi for making the phone call and said he was the first head of state or government who congratulated her after her party’s landslide victory in Sunday’s parliamentary elections.
