Greetings from global leaders pour in for Hasina
Global leaders keep congratulating Awami League president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina on her party’s third consecutive win with absolute majority in 11the national election held on Sunday.
They highly appreciated prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s ‘dynamic leadership’ for the development of Bangladesh and hoped stronger ties with Bangladesh in the coming days.
Hasina has said the win of the Awami League-led grand alliance in the 11th national election was another victory for the people of the country in December - the month of victory.
Chinese president Xi Jinping, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, Chinese premier Li Keqiang, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Bhutanese prime minister Lotay Tshering, Nepalese prime minister KP Sharma Oli, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and chief minister of Tripura Biplobi Kumar Deb
had so far greeted Sheikh Hasina on re-election of her party.
In a statement, the Indian ministry of external affairs said prime minister Modi expressed confidence that the partnership between Bangladesh and India will continue to flourish under her ‘far-sighted’ leadership.
‘We welcome the successful completion of the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. India warmly congratulates the people of Bangladesh for reaffirming their faith in democracy, development and the vision of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,’ said the MEA.
Modi also reiterated the priority India attaches to Bangladesh as a neighbour, a close partner for regional development, security and cooperation, and a central pillar in India’s ‘neighbourhood first’ policy.
‘The conversation was very cordial, fully reflecting the close and traditionally friendly relations between India and Bangladesh,’ said the MEA.
‘The Indian prime minister phoned his counterpart Sheikh Hasina around 10:30am and congratulated her, the Awami League and the people of Bangladesh after her party’s win with absolute majority in the national election...,’ PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said.
‘The victory of the Awami League in the polls is the reflection of stunning development that Bangladesh attained under your dynamic leadership,’ Modi said.
Chinese president Xi Jinping and premier Li Keqiang extended their heartfelt congratulations to prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Ihsanul Karim said Chinese ambassador in Dhaka Zhang Zuo handed over their congratulatory messages to Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban.
The ambassador highly appreciated Sheikh Hasina’s leadership for development of Bangladesh and hoped that her Vision-2021 will be materialised and the country will be turned into a middle-income one by 2021 under her dynamic leadership.
Ambassador Zuo also hoped that Bangladesh will be able to bring down poverty rate to zero soon due to the farsighted programmes of the Bangladesh prime minister.
The Chinese envoy hoped that the strategic and mutual cooperation between the two countries will continue in the days to come.
The Chinese envoy paid tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, terming him a great leader of the world.
At the meeting, the prime minister thanked the Chinese president and premier for congratulating her and appreciated the continued support of Beijing for the development of Bangladesh.
Describing China as a great friend of Bangladesh, Hasina expects more investments from China during the next five years of her tenure.
Bangabandhu’s younger daughter Sheikh Rehana, Sheikh Hasina’s daughter Saima Wazed Putul, PM’s principal secretary Md Nojibur Rahman, military aecretary Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin and PMO secretary Sajjadul Hassan were present.
In a message, the king of Bhutan acknowledged the contributions of prime minister Hasina in strengthening the close bonds of goodwill, cooperation and friendship between Bangladesh and Bhutan, said the foreign ministry here.
The Bhutanese premier also phoned Awami League president Sheikh Hasina around 1:30pm and congratulated her, her party and the people of
Bangladesh, Ihsanul Karim said.
During the conversation, he said, the two leaders hoped that the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries will be strengthened further in the days to come.
Nepalese prime minister Oli phoned Hasina and congratulated her on her party’s landslide victory in the election.
During the telephonic conversation, he said, the two premiers reaffirmed that the two countries will work together for further bolstering bilateral relations and cooperation.
Palestine president Mahmoud Abbas also phoned Hasina and congratulated her on her party’s landslide victory in the election.
‘The Palestine president phoned prime minister Sheikh Hasina at about 6:00pm and congratulated her, the Awami League and the people of Bangladesh on securing her
party’s absolute majority in the national election,’ Karim said.
During the seven-minute conversation, he said, the prime minister also greeted Mahmoud Abbas and the people of Palestine president.
Sheikh Hasina reiterated that Bangladesh will continue its support to the cause of Palestine and
will always stand by its people.
The Palestine president invited Hasina to visit Palestine, the press secretary said, adding that the prime minister also reciprocated the invitation.
Meanwhile, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
‘Heartiest congratulations to Sheikh HasinaJi on the victory in the Bangladesh general election,’ she tweeted.
