Two Khulna journalists sued, one held over ‘wrong info on polls’

Police on Tuesday arrested a Khulna-based journalist in a case filed by an assistant returning officer for providing ‘untrue’ information regarding 11th general elections.

The arrested is Hedayet Hossain Mollah, Khulna correspondent of Dhaka Tribune and Bangla Tribune and city editor of Khulna-based Dainik Prabah.

Khulna assistant returning officer and Batiyaghata upazila nirbahi officer Debashish Chowdhury field the case under Digital Security Act against Hedayet and Rashedul Islam, Khulna correspondent of Daily Manabzamin, said Batiyaghata police officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman. Rashedul Islam is absconding, he said.

In the FIR, Debashish Chowdhury said eighty per cent votes were cast in Batiaghata but the accused people had reported that 22,419 more votes were cast than the actual number of total voters in Sunday’s general election.
