New ministers make plethora of promises

Newly appointed ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers on Tuesday were greeted by officials and employees of their respective ministries and departments as they took over charge a day after taking oath of office. 
Taking up office, health and family welfare minister Zahid Maleque, who served as state minister of the same ministry in the previous term of the Awami League-led government, said that healthcare would be taken to the doorstep of rural people.
Cancer hospitals would be established at all divisional cities and soon 10,000 physicians would be appointed, he told journalists in his office. 
He also said importance would be given to researches in the sector while private sector would be organised and overall quality improved. 
Education minister Dipu Moni, after joining her new office at the secretariat, said that they would work as a team for improving the quality of education and implementing the pledges made in election manifesto. 
She also said that they would consolidate the successes already made in the sector. At that time deputy education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury was also present there. 
Agriculture minister Mohammad Abdur Razzaque told journalists, after joining new office, that his ministry’s main challenge was to ensure nutritious and safe foods for all.
‘We’ll make agriculture a profitable profession,’ he assured and added that ruling Awami League made Bangladesh self-sufficient in producing cereal. 
Newly appointed food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said that he was aware of the price hike of rice and decided to sit with district-level rice traders, likely on January 10.
‘I know that both increasing and decreasing prices of foods is always at fault,’ he added.
New information minister Hasan Mahmud, after joining his office, said that besides expansion of mass media there were some online-based fake portals. 
He said he would try to prevent these fake news portals and address the problems of journalists. 
Law minister Anisul Huq, on the first day of his second consecutive term in the ministry, said he would try to ensure justice for all and provide justice at low or no cost at all. 
They would work to bring back the absconding killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and were considering formation of a commission for continuing trial in the case, he added. 
Land minister Saifuzzman Chowdhury announced zero tolerance in combating corruption in land management, said a press release issued by the ministry on the day. 
Expatriate welfare and overseas employment minister Imran Ahmed, joining his office, said that they would work to ensure safe, orderly and regular migration at minimum cost.
New railways minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan said that he would take initiatives for important projects on a priority basis, said a press release. 
Md Mahbub Ali, newly appointed civil aviation and tourism minister, said that as airplanes and airports were a country’s drawing room and gateway respectively, they would work to make these infrastructures pleasant and more organised. 
The newly appointed ministers, state and deputy ministers also sought cooperation of all officers, employees, other stakeholders and media to help them discharge their duty with sincerity and integrity.
They were given floral receptions after they took the charge of the ministries. 
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina along with her 46-member cabinet took oath of office on Monday at Bangabhaban after a landslide victory in the 11th national polls marred by widespread fraudulences and flaws on December 30.
