HC rejects writ petition challenging oath of new MPs
The High Court on Thursday rejected a writ petition that challenged the legality of administering oath of new lawmakers when the previous parliament still exist.
A bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal rejected the writ petition after lawyer AM Mahbubuddin Khokon did not press the matter for the hearing.
Earlier, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam strongly opposed rejection of the writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Taherul Islam Tawhid.
The writ petitioner said that the oaths were administered to the new lawmakers violating the constitution before expiry of the tenure of the previous parliament.
