PM pledges to establish political rights of citizens

Prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina on Saturday pledged to establish political rights of all citizens.
‘The government will work for all and ensure their political rights,’ she told a rally the Awami League organised at Suhrawardy Udyan in to celebrate its victory in December 30 general election, marred by fraud and flaws.
Hasina claimed that people cast their vote against violence, corruption and drug abuse.
‘It is hard to achieve the victory, but harder to keep it up,’ she said, expressing her gratitude to the people for voting her party to power for the fourth term.
The prime minster thanked all the political parties for participating in the elections.
She said that the government would work for everyone irrespective of political believes and without considering who had voted for and against her party.
The AL president said that people cast votes keeping their trust in her. ‘So, we must honour the trust the people fulfilling the election pledges,’ she said.
She pledged that her government would work for ‘balanced development’ of every area of the country.
AL advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu said that the people voted for the Awami League for continuation of development work initiated by AL-led alliance government under the leadership Hasina.
Advisory council member Tofail Ahmed said that the people wanted development of the country and kept their trust in Hasina voting for the AL-led grand alliance in the 11th parliamentary elections.
AL presidium members Matia Chowdhury, Mohammad Nasim, liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque, AL joint general secretaries Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman, organising secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, central leaders Mirza Azam, Sadeque Khan, Shahe Alam Murad, Awami Juba League president Omar Faroque Chowdhury, among others, addressed the rally.
AL general secretary Obaidul Qader read out a citation on behalf of the party for Hasina for leading the party to victory in the elections.
Some solo and chorus songs based on AL electioneering were rendered at the rally.
Thousand of leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associate organisations in Dhaka and adjacent districts joined the rally with banners, festoons in processions.
Though the rally was scheduled for 2:30pm, the leaders and activists began to throng the venue and its adjacent areas in processions with drums, wearing colourful caps and T-shirts and carrying replica of AL electoral symbol boat.
They chanted slogans thanking Hasina as well as the people for bringing the Awami League to power.
Traffic movement was thin in the city in the morning and Dhaka Metropolitan Police diverted traffic since morning for smooth transport of the participants in the rally.
During the rally hours, traffic movement was not allowed between Matsya Bhaban and Shahbagh. A number of people, including children, ailing ones, women and elderly people were seen walking the venue adjacent road to reach their destination or to get a transport for scarcity of transports during the rally hours.
There was huge presence of police in and around the venue to ensure security.
